Posted on 10th December 2022 by loukcook

The Eternal Return of Clara Hart has been nominated for the Yoto Carnegies 2023! I can’t tell you how much it means to see my book there alongside so many other books I’ve admired. Check out the full list here: https://yotocarnegies.co.uk/nominations-announced-2023/

Look what a beautiful book @becca_a_writes wrote 🍒💜

I first read an earlier draft of this stunner back in 2022 and knew from the very first page that this book had to be out in the world. Witty, heart-warming, wise and unflinchingly honest, Officially Losing It is all the things YA should be.

I hope it gets into the hands of all the young adults (and former young adults) who need it.

Blurb 👇

When Rose decides to lose her virginity to her gorgeous, sweet boyfriend, Joel, the scene is set for a major milestone. Except, when it comes to it, they can't seem to make it ... happen. Rose's 'epic sex fail' freaks her out. Isn't everyone else having an easy, fun, painless time?!

The problem is, she's already told her best friends she's done it. And, worse still, while Rose unpicks her health issue, her relationship with Joel starts to crack under the pressure.

But it turns out sex is not always straightforward for others either, and Rose soon becomes the accidental confidante of cringe. Maybe bodies and relationships are as weird and unique as we are? And maybe what she really needs to lose is shame?

Completely bewildered in the best way to see Iris Completely bewildered in the best way to see Iris Green (and my big face) in The Observer today.

It's there alongside an amazing list of YA titles to get stuck into, including If My Words Had Wings from superstar @danielle_jawando, which is my most anticipated read of the month 💛🪶🩵

💙 A powerful, necessary novel in verse Jay wak 💙 A powerful, necessary novel in verse

Jay wakes in a park, beaten and bruised. He can’t remember what happened the night before. But he has suspicions...

The story unfolds from that point in spare, impactful verse that never shies away from Jay's trauma, yet offers moments of comfort and hope.

It took me a little while to open this up, as I knew it would be a challenging, emotional read (do check the TWs and go carefully, pals), but then got through it in just two days, completely unable to put it down until I knew how it ended for Jay. Brave, authentic, beautiful and a vital addition to ya literature on this subject.

Huge thanks to the brilliant @littleislandbks and @cgmoore_author for the proof.

Three recent reads for #WorldBookDay. I've been me Three recent reads for #WorldBookDay. I've been meaning to shout about all these beauties for a while, but deadlines, a poorly dog and then the flu got in the way...

Play by Luke Palmer is a phenomenal YA novel about modern masculinity told through the interlinked stories of four teenage boys. It’s unflinching but compassionate and beautifully written, and left me thinking about it long after turning the final page. One of my top reads of 2023.

Lie Or Die by AJ Clack is OUT TODAY (congratulations @alison.clack)! A smart, claustrophobic and twisty thriller that sees ten strangers trapped in a reality TV set with a sinister AI host and bodies piling up. Such a brilliant concept, immaculately executed. I enjoyed this so much I might actually have to give The Traitors a go.

You Wouldn't Catch Me Dead by Tess James-Mackey is another cracking YA thriller. This one vividly brought back memories of being lost, sad, soggy and blistered on my Duke of Edinburgh expedition, although luckily no one was trying to kill me... I loved Tess's debut and this was another atmospheric read with memorable characters and twists that blindsided me.

Highly recommend all these. Thanks so much @fireflypress and @teambkmrk 🧡
